CVMNEXT constructed a new building at Frankford Friends, providing the growing school with a significant expansion of instructional space. This innovative project includes six new classrooms, a dedicated music room and a much-needed multi-purpose facility. CVMNEXT worked with the client and architect to refine construction costs, while preserving the many sustainable design strategies that are central to the school’s core Quaker values.

In addition to navigating the logistics of building adjacent to an occupied school on a tight urban site, the project also needed to be completed within the constraints of the school’s academic calendar. Further complexities arose due to the use of Pennsylvania RAC-P funding, which required a creative approach to maintaining stringent financial and procurement controls.

The project was given an Honor Award in the “Built” category at the AIA Philadelphia 2013 Awards for Design Excellence.
