Representatives from CVMNEXT Construction were proud to be on hand this morning in Philadelphia when Mayor Jim Kenney and sculptor Branly Cadet unveiled the design for the Octavius Catto sculpture memorial. An African-American activist, educator, writer, athlete and speaker, Catto was fatally shot in 1871 during election violence, two years after he had successfully campaigned for the fulfillment of the 15th Amendment in Pennsylvania, which guaranteed suffrage to all men in America.
The Catto memorial will be located on City Hall’s southern apron, and the project is expected to be completed later this year. CVMNEXT is performing the installation, with design and planning assistance from CVM. Also on the Cadet-assembled project team are OLIN, Urban Engineers and the Lighting Practice. Check back for updates as the project progresses.
